|  | About Us |  | Thorough Publishing Limited was formed in August 2005 by husband and wife team Phil and Jo. Phil's main occupation is an IT consultant while Jo spends her time running around after their children Jessica, Emily and Lewis.
Thorough Publishing Limited was created to enable us to publish our own and other aspiring authors books. We created the brand "Star of the story" to be a focal point for personalised story books for children.
Where did the idea come from ....
"I love walking my daughter Jessica to school. We live a short distance from school and we walk along a path that runs beside a wood. To make the journey more interesting we make up stories. Every day, Jessica asks for a new story and so every day a new story is created."
"Jessica loves to imagine. She loves to imagine that she is a real Princess walking through the wood near her school. We always talk about the weather, the flowers on the ground and the leaves on the trees. And most importantly, we talk about the story book friends that she will meet on her walk. Jessica loves to help her story book friends and every time it is she that becomes the star of the story."
"Jessica's friends also love to listen to the story. Their eyes light up when they hear their own name included in the story. Their faces positively glow when they hear that they have helped their story book friends. Now, there are a whole host of Prince's and Princesses that live in our world."
What happened next ...
"We started to wonder whether the stories could be printed and if they would be of interest to other children. We asked friends and family, and friends of friends to see what they thought of the stories. We found that they loved the idea and couldn't wait for their book to be ready. We thought about submitting the story to a traditional children's book publisher - but they wouldn't be able to print individual stories. So, we decided to create our own."
"We searched the internet for illustrators and must have looked at over 1000 but none of the illustrations were just right. But, then we found Paula, whose artwork really made the stories come to life. The stories had found their illustrations."
"The most difficult part was finding a way to print the books. It is easy to get quotes for 1000 books and some printers offer quotes for 100 books. But, who could print a single book? The answer was 'Print On Demand' - a relatively new type of printing which uses a digital process. Books can be created as print-ready pdf's and submitted to a print shop. We found a local company and we were up and running."
Where do you go from here ...
"We would like to publish more and more books. We would like to have a selection of Prince and Princess books; we would like to have books about fairies and folk tales, dinosaurs and dragons; we would like to have stories for babies, stories for pre school, stories for older children. We would like to publish a greater number personalised audio CD's, produce our first animated computer story, even our first television programme. The sky is the limit!"
